Hello! We are now officially in the winter season as the met department has given out information thatin just a couple of days the temperature is likely to be down to 16 ° C. Whilethis should be great news for those of you who love cold climes,it’s also time to overhaul your wardrobe and bring out pieces that will keep will warm and cozy. What’s more, it’s a good idea to keep summer and winter wear separate. Forget style, it also ensures garment care and protects your body.
So, rev up your winter fashion with the smart ideas that The Profile Pick fashion influencers have laid out for you –
- Anulipee Ghosh –I am definitely staying away from the stuffed and bulky winter look. Not only does it make you look hot and bothered, I guess it must be pretty uncomfortable to carry as well. The idea is to stay warm and cozy but high on the chic quotient. I suggest use garments that have beautiful texture – wool, faux leather, knits do winter duty fabulously. Throw on a scarf and add some boots. Voila, you are ready for any occasion!
I am all for reusing winter garments. In our part of the country, it is an incredibly short season, so it makes good sense to do a bit of hard work and invest in pieces that remain in vogue for years. I have my go-to collection of oversized knitted sweaters that are warm and pretty. I layer them with shirts and dresses to create newer looks through the season. Next up, are classic wool scarves. You can tie scarves in a dozen ways to create different looks. Go ahead and even use one as a belt when you’re in the mood. Boho chic all the way! Pull out old coats and jackets and just give them a nice polish and sunning. They’re already broken in and super comfy on the skin. Beanies and gloves – which modern girl does not have at least a couple of these? I love mine in bright colours and patterns and they can elevate any garment in minutes.
I am all for upcycled pieces. How wonderful is the fact that after living one life, a piece of garment can still be repurposed for a new life. I reuse old sweaters giving them newer, shorter silhouettes, convert long old scarves into shrugs and craft everyday use totes from fabric that’s no longer in use.

- Suthikna Ray – It makes me beyond happy to see that almost everyone has joined the Indo-Western bandwagon and there’s no one – almost no one – who hasn’t experimented with it either in daily life or on a special occasion. Here is my tip to make the Indo-Western look rock for you in winter– gather as many high neck pullovers and woollen tops in different colours as you can. Pair them with skirts in Indian fabrics and textiles. Indian-style skirts, both long and short, never go out of fashion. In fact, designers are putting a new spin on them with modern cuts and silhouettes. These skirts are so versatile you can dress them up or down – wear them to your college class or your friend’s mehendiceremony. What’s stopping you from creating your very exclusive Indo-Western look this winter?
Iam personally a fan of using and reusing my woollen garments over the years – I see no reason why I should not.
My favourite colour for this season remains black – the universal colour of timeless appeal with a hint of mystery and powerful spohitication. It is my personal favourite as well. So, I guess I will be using it a lot of it in my winter palette to followed by beige, pink in as many shades as you can imagine, and blue.

- Trisha Gangopadhyay – Now that winter is here, give me a hoodie! This is the #1 tip that I would give – “Boys and Girls, get yourself a hoodie.” This super-versatile piece of garment has been fashioned in a zillion ways from simple to sexy, practical to red carpet. Now, we have graphic hoodies, oversized hoodies, pullover hoodies, zip-up hoodies, classic hoodies, cropped hoodies, performance hoodies – the list goes on and on. The perfect blend of comfort and style, it does not restrict itself to just warmth. It makes a fashion statement by itself. What’s more, you can style your hoodies in as many ways as your imagination flows. I say wearing a hoodie is like carrying your own culture with you! For an Indo-Western look to your hoodie, go for some Indian elements like graphic prints of popular Indian icons or symbols. If you want it to be really exclusive, customize with a bit of Indian embroidery accents.
This winter, I am hoping to see and wear a lot of cherry and wine accents along with white as well as my all-time favourite, black.

- Amrita Nandi –I believe in reusing my winter garments but with a new twist every season. I recommend this to everyone – Go for pieces that stand the test of time and can be used every time the mercury falls. Over the years, I have put together a collection of mufflers and trenchcoats that work wonderfully for me. They can be mixed up and paired for different looks as per the occasion. Pull on a trenchcoat and you are looking chic from the top of your head to the toes of your feet.
Indo-Western is now in a league of its own and we’re seeing amazingly creative looks all around. My recommendation – Drape a saree with the turtleneck sweater and accessorize with a broad or sleek belt as appropriate. Then, fix on some pretty silver jewellery – more points if the saree is dark-coloured, say navy blue or black – and you’re ready to make eyes pop!
My winter palette is warm neutrals, beige, and bright Christmassy red when the big day is here.
